Use this checklist to help determine if your child would benefit from occupational therapy:

0-3 Years Old

  • Poor muscle tone
  • Difficulty grasping objects with one or both hands
  • Delayed motor development- rolling over, crawling, walking
  • Dislikes various textures
  • Overly active- seeks excessive movement
  • Uninterested in age-appropriate toys

3-5 Years Old

  • Poor balance and coordination
  • Clumsy or unable to navigate environment
  • Jumps from one activity to another
  • Dislikes various textures
  • Picky eater with certain textures/smells
  • Dislikes haircuts, nail cutting, bathing, etc
  • Uninterested in playground or outdoor activities
  • Has sleep difficulties

6-15 Years Old

  • Difficulty regulating senses
  • Poor attention span & following directions
  • Unable to sit in chair for a long period of time
  • Clumsy, trips and falls frequently
  • Fatigued when engaging in fine motor activity or handwriting
  • Poor handwriting (letter spacing, sizing, orientation, formation)
  • Difficulty with social interaction and communication with peers
  • Has sleep difficulties
  • Poor visual perceptual skills
  • Takes a longer time learning new skills
  • Difficulty with multi-step tasks
